As we continue our series on great Christians and the Sunday school, I want to encourage you on how to be a good class member. If you want to be a good student, there are several things that you can apply to your life this week so that as you go to Sunday school, you’ll be a student that learns the word of God.
Number one, I’d encourage you to arrive early. You never come to a baseball game halfway through; you always want to be there right at the first pitch. A good student should arrive at the classroom before class begins. When that bell rings, they should already be in their desk, already have the books out, already have the supplies ready. So come to Sunday school early, bring your Bible, be in your spot, and arrive early.
Number two, I would read the Bible daily and study the scriptures. The Bible says in Acts 17:11, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” A good Christian is not just built on Sunday; you have to read the word of God and study throughout the week. So arrive early, read and study the Bible for yourself.
Give. Give to the local church. The Bible says, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I want to encourage you as a good Sunday school class member to give to your church.
Next, bring others. Andrew was a great disciple. We don’t know much about Andrew; he’s not spoken of very often, but Andrew was responsible for bringing Peter to Jesus. Great Christians bring people to the local church. They bring them the gospel and then bring them to the house of God. I’d encourage you to bring people to Sunday school. Who have you brought to class lately? Who have you invited lately?
Lastly, I want to encourage you to pray that the Holy Spirit would speak to your heart. “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” If you ask the Holy Spirit, he will illumine the scriptures for you.
These are some tips for being a good class member.
