If you started in Genesis for your Bible reading this year, you read chapter 18 relatively recently. God is speaking to Abraham in this passage and explaining that his wife Sarah will have a son. Sarah laughed within herself because she was old. And in Genesis 18:14, God replies to Abraham and asks, “Is any thing too hard for the Lord?” Lo and behold, Sarah does have a son, Isaac. It was not too hard for God.

We are obviously living in a very progressive time, and some Christians tend to talk themselves into a state of despondency and despair. They focus too much on what the world is doing, on where our culture is heading, and on how the wickedness of the world seems to keep growing. Some even dwell on the coldness of other Christians and how compromise has crept into the church. But none of this affects God. God’s power is not restricted by the year on the calendar or by the limited thoughts that man may have concerning Him.

As we continue in our service, have faith in God. Trust in God when He says that nothing is too hard for Him. If you think it’s too hard to lead a soul to Christ in the time and the climate in which we live, it’s not too hard for God. If you think it’s too difficult to grow your Sunday School class, it’s not too hard for God. If you think that it’s impossible to have new riders on your bus route tomorrow because people don’t want to go to church anymore, it’s not too hard for God. If you think you just don’t have the ability to serve God in His ministry, it’s not too hard for God to use you. Perhaps you’ve had a fleeting thought that passing out Bibles or passing out gospel tracts just won’t work today; remember, it’s not too hard for God.

Today, we need to believe that God is not limited, that God is not confined to circumstances or geography, and that God is as powerful as He ever was. Have faith in God’s ability. Have faith in God’s promises. Have faith in God’s power. Charles Spurgeon said, “Faith is believing that Christ is what He is said to be, that He will do what He has promised to do, and expecting this of Him.”

Nothing is too hard for Lord. Just as God promised Abraham and Sarah in Genesis 18 that there would be a new physical life in the birth of their son Isaac, God has promised that there will be a new eternal life in the spiritual birth of a sinner when he calls upon Him. I am so thankful that saving a sinner from hell is not too hard for God. We trust Him with the most important task, to save us from our sins, so can we not also trust Him to meet every other need in our lives?

As we serve God today, remember that it’s not too hard for God. Whether it’s your area of service, whether it’s a trial in your life, whether it’s a prayer request that you’ve had, it’s not too hard for God. The question posed in Genesis 18, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” is answered in Jeremiah 32:17. “There is nothing too hard for thee.”
