Here in Daniel 2, verse 49, we just finish up the story where Daniel, through God’s help, interprets King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. Nobody else in the kingdom could do it, but God used Daniel to show Babylon how powerful and how wise God is. After this great miracle, Daniel is promoted. And I want us to see what Daniel does in chapter 2, verse 49:

“Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon. But Daniel sat in the gate of the king.”

What I like here about this verse is that as Daniel was promoted, as Daniel was lifted up, as Daniel was making progress, he didn’t just leave behind his friends that were taking that journey and taking that stand with him. Instead of climbing over people to make it to the top, Daniel is bringing up others with him.

That’s my challenge for both of us today, is that we would, as we make progress, as we move forward, that we wouldn’t be pushing others down to do so, but that as we climb higher, we would bring others with us.
