“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

The greatest part about soul winning, the greatest part of running the buses, and the greatest part about sharing the gospel is that we do not do it alone. We do not go out every week and knock on doors by ourselves. Sure, we each have a physical partner that goes with us, whether it be a spouse, friend, or fellow bus worker. But when we go, let us remember Who goes with us. We go with the Holy Spirit.

There are multiple examples in the Old Testament where the Spirit of the Lord came upon people like Joshua, Gidean, Samson, Saul, and David, among many others. But after the death and resurrection of Christ in the New Testament, the Bible makes it very clear that it is at the moment of salvation that the Holy Spirit permanently dwells in every true believer. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, Paul asks the church at Corinth, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”

So everywhere we go, we go with the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. Not only do we go with the Holy Spirit; we go with the Holy Spirit’s power. The Greek word used for “power” in Acts 1:8 is dunimas, which is actually the root for our English word “dynamite.” That is the kind of power that we have with the holy Spirit! It is an explosive, mighty, enabling, and dominant power!

Even though I have tried to make a study of sharing the gospel, if you are anything like me, you might be a little unsure of your abilities and skills in properly communicating the plan of salvation. But when we share the gospel, it is not our own power or our own ability that is able to convict a sinner of his condition. It is the power of the Holy Spirit working through us. John 16:8-9 says, talking about the Holy Spirit, “And when He is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me;”

I would like to encourage you today: do not be afraid of witnessing to others. When you share the gospel, know it is not your job to convict people of their sin. It’s not your job to change someone’s life. It is, however, your job to go and share the gospel with those that you meet. Let the Holy Spirit use you to convey the need for their salvation. R.A. Torrey said, “The Holy Spirit is the One Who can convince men of sin.” And that is true. The heart of man is naturally wicked and sinful, and we all have met children and adults alike who wholly believe that they have not sinned.

If we do our part—if we are right with God and doing our physical job of going, let’s let the Holy Spirit do the heavy lifting and fulfill His part. We all go with the power of the Holy Spirit.
