I am so very much looking forward to this week on Help for Today. We’re talking all this brand new calendar year on finances. Finance is the foundation of your life and my life.

My Bible says in Matthew chapter 6, verse number 19 and 20, “Lay not up for yourself treasure on earth.” Don’t lay up things down here. You know, recently in the last few years, there was a fire that went through Napa, California. Brother Mike Ray took me through there. It was all beautiful, beautiful houses, gated communities, restored cars in the garage. And those cars, by the hundreds, were burnt to a crisp. They’re gone. The houses are gone. Some brick structures, fireplaces stayed. But other than that, they’re all gone.

That’s people that invested their life into their cars, into their houses, into their lands, into their beautiful landscaping. It’s all gone. God says lay up, invest your money. Where are you going to invest it this year?

I tell you, my wife and I, we’ve already decided. We have a heavy house payment. I’ll have it at page 99, a heavy house payment. One day I’ll get too old. I won’t be able to pastor this church. I’ll have to move in my house. I can’t afford it. But I’ll tell you what, that’s not our largest gift. Oh, no. Our largest gift every year, and last year was our best year. The year before was the best. Every year we try to do more. We lay it up in heaven.

The number one gift that we have is our tithes and our offerings. And I want to challenge you to do the same. Read Matthew 6: 19-20. Spend some time and consider what you’re going to do for Christ in this upcoming year.
