This morning, in Daniel chapter number six, verse number three, we look at what it was about Daniel that made him stand out above everybody else. We’ve looked at different stories throughout the first five chapters this week. But in chapter number six, I want us to bring it to a close and look at what set Daniel apart from everybody else.

The Bible says in Daniel 6:3, “Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes.” Now, this is as soon as King Darius takes over. He conquers the Babylonians and begins to set up his empire. But he wants to make Daniel the ruler over Babylon. And here’s the reason why: he was preferred because of an excellent spirit. The Bible says the king thought to set him over the whole realm because of his excellent spirit.

Now, we read that set of Daniel not just here in chapter six, but multiple times as we look through his life. Daniel possessed an excellent spirit, and that’s what caused him to get ahead. Here’s the thing about Daniel, though. Every single person who would come in contact with Daniel just noticed his spirit. That’s what everybody took away. That’s what everybody said when they left his presence: “What an excellent spirit that young man has.”

That’s my challenge for me today. My challenge for you is that we would have such an excellent spirit. We’d have such a joy about us that others might take notice. The Bible says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father, which is in heaven.” If we have that excellent spirit, we have that joy of the Lord as we go throughout our day. Others won’t be able to help but notice, and that’ll bring glory and honor to our Savior. That’s my challenge for you today, is that we would all have an excellent spirit.
