My Bible says today in 2 Corinthians chapter number 8, “And how then in the great trial of affliction, the abundance of their deep poverty abounded the riches of liberality.” God’s writing about these Christians that have discovered, though they were in great poverty—great poverty—they gave first of their own selves and then gave of whatever wealth they had left.

You know, you say, “I can’t afford to tithe.” I can’t understand that. Because if on the first day of the week, we lay by him in store with God. God gives us money. The very first bill you ought to pay is your tithes and offerings. Not your second, not your fourth, not your fifth, not your last and say, “I don’t have any money left.” No, always make it number one.

I still do it the old-fashioned way. I write checks; I can’t do it online. But at the end of the month, I take the four Sundays or the five Sundays. I write my tithe for the entire month. I can’t release it because I don’t have enough money in my account, but I do every week release it. But all five Sundays are taken care of. All four Sundays are taken care of.

I’ve never had a problem with tithing. I started tithing, oh, 1963, I think. Started tithing, I’ve tithed every week. I’ve given to missions every week. And when you give first to God, you’ll always have enough. God always meets the need. I’ve never had an interest, never any interest on a credit card, never. I put a lot of money on it every month, but I pay it off every month because I make God my priority.

Let’s make Christ our priority this year.
