Welcome back to Help For Today. We’ve been talking about goals during this first week of February, trying to get some things accomplished this year. And we’ve evaluated where we are. We had our separation, all the different areas of our goals. We’ve had evaluation. How are we doing in those goals? We’ve had intention, making sure that we set realistic goals. We’ve had dedication, making sure we’re dedicated to those goals. And today is going to be accountability. “If you wanted to shun, it would be supervision.” Supervision, making sure that we have accountability in those goals that we’ve set. You know, we set these realistic goals.
We have these high and lofty expectations. But you know what helps us? Accountability. Letting somebody know about what kind of goal we want to accomplish. You know, we battle every single day. And talking spiritually here, we battle our flesh every day. Every day, we battle our flesh. And one of the ways to combat that is to be accountable. To be accountable to somebody else, that they can come in and check on us. How was our Bible reading today? How was our prayer today? How is our life going today? Making sure that we’re following the biblical principles. The same is true for different goals that we have in life. Whether it be spiritually, or academically, or physically, or socially, whatever your goal is, having some accountability might help. Maybe announce it publicly. “Hey, tell your wife, this is what I want to accomplish this year.” Or perhaps tell a good friend, “This is what I want to have. This is what I want to see done in my life.” And so having some accountability helps us in that area.
I know for me, it’s never very fun, or it’s not necessarily the highlight of my life when a friend comes and holds me accountable. But you know what? I appreciate that. You know, a not a true friend, or somebody who’s not a true friend would not tell you if you maybe had a hole in your sweater, or perhaps you had a stain on your pant leg, or something like that, and they just let you go on through life. But you know what? A good friend comes to you and does something that’s maybe a little bit difficult, and they tell you how it’s going. And the same thing is true for accountability or supervision. Making sure that we are held accountable for those goals that we want to see accomplished.
It’ll help you this year, and it’ll help you this life, making sure we see our goals accomplished.
