“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”
Isaiah 40:31
What a promise? The Bible tells us that there is a refreshing, reviving, and power given to the child of God who waits upon the Lord. As Isaiah penned this verse under the inspiration of God, the prophet describes in vivid detail the benefit and blessing of being patient and trusting in God.
The verse says that we are to “wait upon the Lord,” but this does not mean to sit idle and simply do nothing. The waiting described here is not a slothful kind of waiting or an excuse for laziness in the meantime. Rather, here we see that those who have patient faith in God will receive an extra benefit from God.
I fear some Christians use this verse as an excuse not to do anything for the Lord. They are waiting on God’s perfect will so they fail to do God’s will for their lives in the present. They wait and while they wait they lift not even a finger in service to God. I believe God is pleased with those believers who will wait upon him, but while they wait, they serve God faithfully. Quit using your search for God’s will as an excuse to sit on the sidelines. Have patient faith and trust in God’s timing and leading, but work while you’re waiting!
