This morning for Help for Today, I want to encourage you with this fact. We’ve been going through Judges in chapter number one, and today we’re in verse number five. The Bible says that Adonai Bezek fled, and they pursued after him. You know we went through this entire chapter so far this week, and now we’re on day five in the fifth verse, and we’ve seen how Judah was called of God to fulfill the work, how they were afraid; they had Simeon, their brother, come with them. But then God ends up delivering. God comes through, and then here they find Adonai Bezek, who was the king of the Canaanites and the Perizzites at that time in this area, in this region, and he was a mighty king. He actually, the Bible says later on in the chapter, that he had already conquered three score and ten other kings. He had conquered 70 other kings, but he was no match for God. He was not able to fight God, and he was not able to win against our Lord. God is more than capable of meeting our needs. He is greater than any of our enemies. He can conquer anything that we have in life; any problem, the Bible says, is anything too hard for our Lord.
And you know, specifically when it comes to King, Proverbs tells us that the heart of the King is in the hand of the Lord and as the rivers of water, He turneth it whithersoever He will. You know, God always is able to work it out. You look at our political leaders, you look at the kings of the world, the people with all this high status; you can say they’ve defeated so many, there’s still no match for God. They are still not capable of defeating God.
You know, in my own life, I have three wonderful children. They are incredible. And they look up to me; they’re five, four, and two, and they look up to me for so many different things. I have the keys to the church building, so they think I have the keys to everything. We go to the store, they say, “Hey, daddy, you have the keys to this, right?” Oh, we go to our parents’ house, “Do you have the keys to this, right?” No, I only have the keys to the church; it’s okay, but they think I’m so great. They think I can fix any of their problems, I can fix their toys, they think I can lift super heavy objects, and I, I mean really, I can’t. I mean, let’s be honest about this, but they think the world of me. But one day they’re going to grow up, and they’re going to become adults, and they’re going to realize my flaws; they’re going to realize that I can’t really lift anything, they’re going to realize that I can’t fix every single problem they have.
But you know in the Christian life, our Heavenly Father, we don’t ever have to grow up. We don’t ever have to eventually find out God’s flaws. We don’t have to find out that God cannot lift our burden from us, that God cannot fix our problems. You know, God is always able to come through. Let me encourage you this morning on this fifth day of this week, that God is always able to come through. You don’t have to wonder. You don’t have to worry about it. God can come through.
