“When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.” (Proverbs 6:22)

The one true asset which we possess that is beyond earthly value is the Word of God. The writer expresses his relationship to this treasure in the words of Proverbs 6:22.

It is My Guide – “When thou goest, it shall lead thee.” Our safe and reliable guide through this world of danger is the Word of God. It will lead us to Salvation (II Timothy 3:15; Romans 10:17). It will lead us to Surrender (Romans 12:1). It will lead us to Service (Matthew 5:16).

It is My Guard – “When thou sleepest, it shall keep thee.” The Word of God is a great defense against the work of the enemy. It will guard us from Fear (Isaiah 41:10). It will guard us from the Foe (Matthew 4:4, 7, 10). It will guard us against Fainting (Proverbs 24:10).

It is My Good Friend – “When thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.” As we look upon its pages, the Word of God speaks to us as a good friend. It Comforts us in our Sorrows; it Challenges us in our Service, and it Corrects us in our Straying.

Concerning the Bible, this statement has been made: Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.

This Book never grows old, for its pages unfold

Fresh blessings from God up above.

It is new every day, in a wonderful way;

And I give it my undying love.
