Many people of our generation have abandoned the concept of Sunday school. What about it? Is there any semblance of a Scriptural foundation to the idea of a specific time to gather and teach the Word of God? Let’s look at two verses from Moses’ admonitions to prepare the people of Israel for living in Canaan Land (a type of the victorious Christian life).

The Sunday School – (Deuteronomy 31:12-13)

1. The Principle for the Sunday School

 “Gather the people together…”

A. A Simple Task-–nothing difficult

B. A Specific Time-–if all are gathered there must be a set time

C. A Sacred Trust-–inspired by God; found in His Word

2. The People for the Sunday School

“…men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates…”

A. The People of the Congregation

B. The People of the Community

3. The Purpose of the Sunday School

“…that they may hear, and that they may learn…”

A. That Truth May Be Expounded

B. That Truth May Be Embraced 

4. The Profit from the Sunday School

A. Reverence for God-–“…fear the Lord your God…”

B. Righteousness and Godliness -–“…observe to do all the words of this law…”

C. Rescue of Generations-–“that their children…may hear, and learn…”

Although Moses and the children of Israel were in a different dispensation, I believe the principle, purpose, and profit are the same for God’s people today. Let’s determine that we will be faithful to Sunday school.
