This is Monday, the 4th of December, and it’s Christmas season. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas by your place. I’m going to take the book of Luke this day and the next several days in one verse a day. I want to give you just one thought for today, and it’s really about your life and my life during this Christmas season.
“And it came to pass,” and by the way, I love that. I haven’t marked every place in my life, but it always comes to pass. Whatever you’re going through today, it’s going to come to pass. But listen to this. “In those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. They’re to be registered.” That was the most awful time. It wasn’t a good time.
I want to illustrate this. God’s time was always the right time. Recently, our nephew Elisha Swanson was married here to one of our girls, Lauren Kirby, in September. And Elisha’s dad was here as a pastor, and he just gave a greeting. And so, we always wondered why Elisha was born so late into our marriage. They’ve had one child. I want to say they were married 18 years. It may have been 17.
You know, here’s a man of God who’s a pastor. He grew up in a preacher’s home. His mother died when he was very young. And the bride, her mom died a couple years ago. Our secretary here, young. Pastor Swanson said this. “God didn’t give us a child in our first year, our first five years.”
