We’re in the book of Hebrews this morning in chapter 12, Hebrews chapter 12, and verse number 1. The Bible here is using a race to describe our Christian life. The Bible says, Hebrews 12, verse 1, towards the middle of the verse, it says, “Let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” You and I as Christians are set in a race.

During my time in college, we always learned that faithfulness is not measured in years, but rather in decades. You and I on our race, we want to be found faithful at the end. We want to make sure we do our very best. But you might say, “Brother Simmons, how can I be found faithful reading my Bible for the rest of my life? How can I be found faithful being a soul winner until Jesus comes back? How can I be found faithful in any of these areas of ministry?”

Well, can I say that yes, faithfulness is measured in decades, but it all starts with Jesus doing right today. If we’re going to be found faithful ten years from now, we have to be faithful today. So yes, while we might want to say, “I want to live my Christian life, I want to do the very best for all these amount of years,” how about today? Can I encourage you? Just do right today. And if you keep on doing right today, then one day you’ll be faithful for the rest of your life.

So whatever you do, do right today.
