Good morning and welcome to Help For Today.

We’ve been looking at Daniel chapter 3 over the last few days, and we have seen that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, by taking a stand for the Word of God and taking a stand for the things they believed, they stood out where the others noticed their stand.

We looked at yesterday how they stood firm. They were unwavering in their belief even though King Nebuchadnezzar gave them a second chance, they stood firm.

Today, I want you to consider why they stood. What was it that they were standing for? What was it that they were standing upon? You see, they weren’t standing for their personal beliefs. They weren’t standing because of popular opinion. They weren’t standing because of what the outcome may or may not have been.

I found that even when brought before Nebuchadnezzar, when given the opportunity to compromise, when given the opportunity of a second chance, not only did they continue to stand firm, but they stood in the face of great opposition.

Well, what kind of stand would basically force them or allow them to take that stand so passionately? I find that they stood based on the Word of God.

See, in Exodus 20, in the law that was given by God to Moses, they would have known that the Bible says, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them. For I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me.”

See, when Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood, they stood based upon the Word of God. It was their foundation. It gave them a sure footing that they knew that when they were standing, they were standing for right.

You know, you can choose to stand really… for anything you want. You can stand based on your opinions or your feelings. You can take a stand based on popular opinion, but those things will give way. Those things will change, but when you take a stand on the Word of God, remember that it changeth not. It is a foundation for which we can build our lives.

Can I challenge you, as I have challenged myself today from the Word of God, to stand based upon the Word of God. Stand out, stand firm, and stand on the Word of God.
