As we come to the final time in the Scriptures that we read the statement, “the LORD is good,” we find it hidden away in the Minor Prophets. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the prophet Nahum pens these words for the final time. It is a summation of all that has been said about the goodness of God, and in this verse, we see the Enfolding Strength of His Goodness.
Here we find an Undeniable Truth–“The LORD is good.” How clear and how evident His goodness is to those who look for it.
Here we find an Unassailable Tower–“a stronghold in the day of trouble.” I’m thankful that I have a refuge amidst the troubles of life because of the goodness of God.
We see here an Unremitting Thoughtfulness–“he knoweth.” He knows our frame (Psalm 103:14); what we need (Matthew 6:32); His sheep (John 10:14); our way (Job 23:10); and how to deliver (2 Peter 2:9). I’m glad He knows.
Then we see here an Unshakable Trust–“them that trust in him.” How can we trust Him even when we do not understand? As Charles Spurgeon is reported to have once said, “When you cannot trace the hand of God, you can trust the heart of God.” Why? Because the Lord is good!
