“For the Lord is good…”

(Psalm 100:5)

Once again, we read in God’s Word the statement, “the Lord is good…” This is a wonderful characterization of our God. He is good! He is eternally good. Psalm 52:1 states, “the goodness of God endureth continually.” How comforting to know that His goodness never ends. It is also important for us to realize that God is not only eternally good, He is exclusively good. In Mark 10;18 Jesus said, “there is none good but one, that is, God.” When He ceases to be good, He ceases to be God.

With this thought in mind, I would like to remind you of the Eternal Security of His Goodness. As children of God, our eternal security is dependent upon His goodness. We cannot be good enough to earn salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5). Neither can we be good enough to keep our salvation. But the same God Who manifested His goodness towards us to lead us to repentance (Romans 2:4), also manifests His goodness toward us to secure us in His grace. Peter reminds us that we are “kept by the power of God” (1 Peter 1:5). I rejoice to know that I am saved and secure “For the Lord is good.”
