Generations past had clever phrases to convey important truths. You may be familiar with the phrase, “Mind your P’s and Q’s,” which is a classic expression that reminds the hearer to be on his best behavior. I would like to ask that you to “Mind the P’s and C’s.” Years ago, our Pastor encouraged his people to look for the promises and commands during our daily Bible-reading time. For each promise we came across, we were to write a P by that verse. For each command―you guessed it―a C would be added in front of that verse.

In the years that I have been adding my P’s and C’s during my morning devotions, I have come across some that I missed the last time I read through the passage. Some days with a heavy heart and eyelids, I open my Bible just to have a P or a C catch my eye. The promise rolls over my spirit, again refreshing it. The command will remind me that I must fight the good fight and that I know exactly what my Lord wants of me. Each time I hold God’s Word in my hands, I know that if I go with a humble heart, actively looking to meet with the Lord, He is always there.

In your daily Bible time, I would like to encourage you to “mind the P’s and C’s,” the Promises and Commands that can be found in God’s Word.
