This week, we’re studying Philippians 3:14, and we looked at Paul’s focus. We looked at his personal evaluation of his spiritual walk. We saw that he put great effort; he pressed towards the mark. And today, I want to come to you about that next phrase, “toward the mark.” If we have drive and determination and personal effort, but we’re going in the wrong direction, it’s all in vain. And I see that Paul was so determined. He was so focused because he had his eyes on the mark.

Now, what was his mark? Well, Hebrews 12 tells us that we’re to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. And today, I don’t want us to be getting our attention sideways on those that are next to us in the race, those that are behind us in the race, things that are in the past, failures, difficulties, circumstances. We could… We can so easily, as a runner, get our eyes sidetracked from our mark, from our goal. But today, I want to encourage you, keep your eyes fixed on the Lord Jesus Christ. He’s our mark. He’s our goal. Thank you.
