“Merry Christmas.” On these Help for Todays, over the next five days, we’re gonna look at the Christmas story. And I don’t know about you, but I love the Christmas season. I love to see the Christmas lights and to hear the Christmas music.

And this thought today is very simple. “He is still on the throne.” To think about Jesus, God robed in human flesh, coming to this earth. When he did, he split the calendar from BC to AD. Everything changed. But when we come to Luke’s gospel, chapter two, and verse one, the Bible says this, “It came to pass in those days, there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.” Man, this decree was for all the world and it changed the lives of everybody that first Christmas. This was not a convenient thing.

But I’m here to tell you that for the Christian, everything in life is sacred, it’s not secular. So for Caesar to give this decree, it was just a secular decision that he made, but behind the scenes, God was using him as a pawn to bring about the fulfillment of prophecy. From Micah chapter 5, and verse 2, the Old Testament declares that Jesus was going to be born in Bethlehem’s manger.

And so Mary and Joseph, while this was very inconvenient for them, they knew that they were very blessed and highly favored of God, and so they were willing to make this journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem because they knew that God was still on the throne and Jesus was going to be born the Savior of the world.

So this first help for today, as we consider Christmas, let’s remember that He is on the throne. I don’t know what you’re struggling with today or what obstacles come your way, but remember that God is still on the throne.
