Last time we examined five tried and true methods to study God’s love letter to man. Let’s now take a look at five more helpful ways to explore God’s Word.

1. We Must Study The Bible Realizing That Not All Is Revealed

God never intended His Word to be all-inclusive. Everything has not been revealed to us in the Bible but God has revealed everything He wants us to know about Him through Scripture. The Christian should work diligently at not spending more time on what the Bible does not say as opposed to what the Bible does say.

The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” (Deuteronomy 29:29)

2. We Must Study The Bible And Declare It To Others

God never intended His Word to be hidden. It should be preached and proclaimed by every saved individual.

With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.” (Psalm 119:13)

Many Christians have not properly studied the Bible and, as a result, are fearful of declaring the Word of God to others.

3. We Must Study The Bible And Ask The Holy Spirit For Understanding

One of the roles and responsibilities of the Holy Spirit is to reveal the truth of Scripture to God’s children. It is a prudent habit to ask the Holy Spirit for His divine help and guidance whenever we engage in reading the Scripture.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” (I Corinthians 2:9-13)

4. We Must Study The Bible Realizing Every Word Is From God

The Bible deserves our best time and our best study. We should give the Scriptures the attention that we give no other book because the Word of God is like no other book.

“For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” (I Thessalonians 2:13)

5. We Must Study The Bible Using Proper Principles Of Interpretation

In most areas of life, there is a right way and a wrong way to do something. This principle is especially true when it comes to studying and interpreting the Bible.

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.” (II Corinthians 4:2)

Next time we will begin a study examining the proper principles for Biblical interpretation.
