Obey every spiritual impulse.

I have heard this phrase many times in the past 29 years at North Valley.  In High School chapel, Give Me Thine Heart Clubs, and from the pulpit of our church this truth has rung out.

Obey every spiritual impulse.

Once you are a saved child of God, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within you and guide you on the pathway of life. Sometimes if we are not careful, we relegate the leading of the Holy Spirit to just big decisions.  However, I have found that the Holy Spirit’s leading can be found in simple everyday situations.  That still small voice that presses upon you to go and talk to that one person at church.  The feeling that a child in your class needs a note of encouragement or a question on how their day is going.  The impression on your heart to pray for someone at that very moment.  The Holy Spirit may caution you about what you are about to say.  Adherence to the Spirit’s guidance may preserve your life or the lives of others.

Obey every spiritual impulse.

I have by no means reached perfection in always obeying the Holy Spirit’s leading, but I can say that I actively try.  I pray for leading and I pray for an attitude that will recognize that leading.  I would like to encourage you to allow the Holy Spirit to have an active part of your daily life.  Only the Lord knows how you may be used to be a help or an encouragement to others.

Obey every spiritual impulse.
