There are two types of people in the Christmas story in Matthew chapter 2. We have the merry and the miserable. We have the delightful and the despondent. Yes, we have the rejoicing and the repulsive. We also have the joyful and the wrathful. The Bible says in Matthew chapter number 2 verses 9 through 10, “When they had heard the king, they departed, and lo, the star which they saw in the east went before them, till it came and stood over them where the child was.” And verse 10 says, “When they saw the star,” here’s the first type of Christian or people in the Christmas story, “they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.” When the wise men found the promised Messiah, the young child Jesus Christ, they rejoiced, the Bible says, with exceeding great joy. The wise man pictures the merry group, and the miserable group can also be pictured in Matthew chapter 2. The Bible says, when Herod the king, there are some Herods around, you know that. They heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. The Bible says that Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise man, the Bible says he was exceeding wrath.
How about that? You see, the two types of people in the Christmas story, we have the joyful, and we have the wrathful. Which group do we belong? Let’s ask that question to ourselves, which group do we belong? I tell you what though, let’s enjoy the Christmas season. Let’s just enjoy it. And let’s enjoy the colder weather, depending on where you live. Let’s enjoy the unwanted gifts, wrong size gifts. And somebody gave me a small petite. I’m no petite, but I’ll tell you what, recycle gifts, have you ever heard of that? Let’s enjoy the packed and parking lots and parking lots and grocery stores and shopping malls. Let’s enjoy dealing with the not so friendly people or shoppers or cashiers. Let’s enjoy the calories and the calories and the calories and weight gain, I guess.
“When they saw,” the Bible says, “the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.” Here’s what I’m trying to say. Enjoy Christmas time, don’t endure it. Merry Christmas.
