Okay, we’re back in Proverbs 16:7. Yesterday we looked at “Please the Lord.” One of man’s ways, “Please the Lord.” The Bible goes on to say, “He maketh even his enemies.” The reality is when we live to please the Lord, we’re gonna make some enemies. That shouldn’t be something we get excited about. Our goal is not to go out and make enemies, but we’re going to make enemies. That’s just the reality of it.
Jesus said in Matthew chapter 10, “I didn’t come to bring peace on earth, but a sword.” Now, there will be peace on earth when the Prince of Peace comes to reign and to rule, but until then, we are not going to have peace. And we ought to strive for peace according to purity in the word of God. That’s what James 3 says. James chapter 3 says, “The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable.” So we’re not striving for enemies, but we have to arm ourselves, as Peter says, with the same mind. And Jesus said, look, in John chapter 15, he said, “The world hated me.” says, “The world’s gonna hate you.”
If you were of the world, the world would love you. But because I’ve called you out of the world, the world’s gonna hate you. And so we just have to realize today that as we live to please the Father, there are gonna be some people that just frankly aren’t gonna be happy about that.
And while we’re not trying and striving to make enemies, we have to be reminded that we will make them as we strive to please the Lord.
