Luke chapter 2, verse number 4: “On our fourth day, Joseph went up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into Judea to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem.”
Joseph and Mary had to get to Bethlehem. Why? Because 700 years before, Micah 5:2 said that out of Bethlehem was going to come the Messiah. Mary was carrying this child who was God in her womb. She could not have him born in Damascus or in Syria or in some other country or other city because God had already decided where he wanted the Savior to be born: in Bethlehem of Judea.
So God made sure that a heathen governor made a rule to get her there, and she had to get there because all had to be taxed.
To me, it’s just such a thrilling, fascinating story. God’s gonna place you at the right place at the right time. Pastor, God has you in the right city. I know it’s hard sometimes: difficult situations, mission field, whatever it might be. God has you at the right place, or he’s gonna get you by his mercy and direction to the right place at the right time.
Have a great day, friends.
