I’ve always loved this passage. It’s Judges chapter number 7, verse number 9. God says, “Arise.” He says to Gideon, “He said, ‘Rise and go, and I’ve delivered him into your hand.'” And He says, “But if thou fear to go down, go with Phurah, thy servant.” I like the next verse. And Gideon … as he goes, he went down with Phurah.
What does that tell you? This great Gideon was afraid. I don’t care who the leader is, husband, father, your mother is the leader, your mama, I don’t care who the leader is, the pastor. We all have moments when we become afraid. But you know what our God does? He sends someone like a Phurah in to encourage us, to help us, to give us courage.
Let’s all be Phurah today. Let’s bring encouragement to a child, a teenager, a college student, a young couple, a single adult, to a senior citizen. God is going to allow people to pass by you today. You’ll come into their presence. Let’s be a Phurah. Encourage somebody today. Lighten their load. Give them courage on this great day.
