Moses was about to transfer power to the man Joshua, his minister, and Joshua’s going to take the nation of Israel into the Promised Land.
In Deuteronomy chapter number 3, verse 28, the Bible says, “But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him, for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.”
Today, I want to come to you on behalf of these two words, “encourage him.” And as we study the subject of how to help the man of God, I want to encourage us to be encouragers.
The word “encourage” means to build. It means to strengthen, to inspire courage. And as Christians, we should be building the man of God. We should be inspiring the man of God. We should be pushing him forward. How can we do that? Through kind words. It’s amazing how a kind word can really help a person, give them strength.
I think of a positive attitude. A positive attitude when you’re around someone with a good attitude, it brings strength, it brings help. And then remembering milestones, remembering progress, things that happen in the church, and saying something about those and being positive about those, those will encourage your pastor.
Moses was a great leader, but God told him to encourage Joshua. And I’m hoping that today, each of us will endeavor to find the man of God and be an encouragement to him along the pathway of life.
