We all know that Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” And I want to leave you with this thought today. And it’s simply this: fishing is fun. I know that there are people who’ve tried to go fishing and they’ve never even, you know, caught a fish. We’ve caught some snags and that type of thing, you know, and that’s not fun. But I’m here to tell you, when you’re out fishing, and you I remember Joshua as a little boy, our youngest child, and we were on a camping trip, and that first it was just a little tiny trout grabbed a hold of his line, tugged on it, tugged on that pole. He just got so excited. His face lit up, and he reeled in that fish. He was so happy to have caught that fish. It was life-changing for him.

And I’m here to tell you, when you follow Jesus and you learn how to tell others about Jesus and they pray and receive Christ as their savior, there is nothing like it in the world. There is not another feeling in the world that’s greater than knowing that God used you to share the gospel. And this harvest season, it is our responsibility to follow the Lord. And this is the great commission. We’ve been commissioned to go and tell the world. And the reality is, it’s a fun thing to do. When you share the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, with somebody that doesn’t know they’re going to heaven, and you can sense that the Holy Spirit is tugging at their heart and convicting them of their need to trust Christ. It’s so far greater than having a pole and a rod in your hand and feeling a tug at the end of the line, and you’re about to reel in. It is a wonderful feeling to witness the Holy Spirit of God working in the lives of other people.

God just told us, see, Jesus just told us, “Follow me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.” He’ll do that work through us. Our job is to follow him. Our job is to cast the net. Our job is to cast that line out into the water where there’s an opportunity to be a witness. I want to challenge you today, let’s be fishers of men, because fishing is fun. When you reach that person with the gospel and they’ve trusted Christ as their savior, I guarantee it, you’ll be so thankful that you took the time to fish. So today, let’s remember, it’s a fun thing to do, to go fishing.
