Happy Valentine’s Day. We’ve been looking at love this week. And the Bible says in Romans 12 and verse 9, “let love be without dissimulation.” Paul used that big word. It simply means hypocrisy. And he explained it by saying, “abhor that which is evil” and then “cleave to that which is good.”
Now we know that God is love. And Proverbs chapter six declares for us these six things that the Lord hate. So even while God is love, he hates a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that deviseth wicked imagination, feet that be swift to running to evil, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
So you and I ought to love God so much that there are some things in our life that we hate. And I like the statement, “you cannot love gardens if you don’t hate weeds.” My grandmother had a garden. And every time I’d go visit grandma as a kid, she would send me out in her garden and have me pull weeds. I wonder what weeds we need to be pulled in our heart today. Weeds that keep us from serving God and being faithful to church, being faithful stewards financially with our tithes and offerings, being faithful to share the gospel with our neighbors and coworkers. I wonder what weeds need to be pulled in our own relationships of marriage that keep us from having a close relationship with our spouse, spending time together, listening to each other’s heart, and enjoying the journey of life together.
Today, let’s pull some weeds, some weeds that keep us from serving the Savior, weeds that keep us from being close to one another and having unity and harmony in our home and in our church. Have a great day.
