Growing up, my brothers and I always enjoyed when we would get to swap some toys or books with our friends for a few days. It was so exciting to have a new book to read or game to play! At times, my parents would remind us that the item was not ours, so if we wanted our friends to continue to let us borrow their things, we would have to treat it nicely. Like many children, we would tend to treat our own items with less care, and we would be reminded to treat the borrowed items better. Countless times, I would hear my dad tell us, “Don’t treat it like it’s yours. Treat it like it’s theirs.”

Earlier this week, I was again reminded of this principle and how it applies to my life now as an adult. My life is not my own; it belongs to God! What a convicting thought!

I Corinthians 6:19 “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?”

Psalm 100:3 “Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

Am I truly living my life as if it belongs to God? Am I honoring Him with all that I say and do? Am I a good steward of all He has given me? Am I using my time wisely? Am I using my life to serve Him? All of these questions (and many more) have run through my mind over and over. I want to live each day of my life as if it truly belongs to God…because it does! I pray that this thought can encourage you to serve the Lord more diligently, as it has encouraged me. Don’t treat your life as if it is your own; treat it like it’s His!
